“It is a greater work to educate a child, in the true and larger sense of the word, than to rule a state”-William Ellery Channing

School is back and as a parent I’ve been thinking so many things like, where is the best school should my daughter go into if she started asking me”mom wanna go to school!”.How much will it cost, will they give here the education she really needs.Of course most parents also have this kind of sentiments. So, i started to think of searching for best schools in town which will cater and enhance my daughters capabilities.

As i was browsing the internet,i was caught by what my brother is watching,” The Correspondents” a television segment of abs-cbn that informs about Filipino people and what’s happening to their community and recognizing those people who excel on their fields.

And there it was, the episode they had was all about teachers and the concerns of education now days.I was touch by this mobile teacher’s story that i started to be teary-eyed. Teacher Merle Beralas of Nueva Viscaya was in my own words so “awesome teacher” that she walks like a day(9:30 am to 9:00 pm) on a muddy long walk up the mountains just to reach those Ifugao students on Sitio Bahas. She leaves her family just to stay with those living on the far-flung barangays to deliver directly education at their doorstep. Even though according to her “sometimes she wants to have wing just to see her family in the city, coz she misses them”. I admire her being so dedicated and and generous of her life to fulfill some dreams of our “kababayans” to have education.

But the question i had in mind we’re…are they compensated well? Are they fully recognize by the government of how generous it is of them to sacrifice themselves rendering services teaching those people? And then it hit me, teacher III like them is payed only 6,000 pesos in a month! Was it really worth it?

My mom is a teacher for a long time, and i have seen how dedicated she is that she even sacrifices time with us just to teach. Not to brag but sometimes we call her the “martyr teacher of the modern world”. She has so many other opportunities( greater than teaching, well, at least financially that would be able to help us ) but she opted to stay and be a teacher to her students.

My fervent wish,is for the government to recognize teachers. Give them more the benefits they deserve, more than what they deserved.Rather than spending to much money on nonsense campaign or projects why not let our teachers enjoy those benefits . Because without them, without their sacrifices who will step out and educate our youth?

I dedicate this little blog to all the teachers who never falter even though there are lot’s of hardship and frustrations with this profession .

Cheers to all of you!!!

Had a great day with mom earlier! What did we do?…go shopping!

We had this mother and daughter bonding time, since we are both busy of our respective careers. We did plan to buy at least one pair of stuff for ourselves, since we are on a tight budget after paying bills.

While strolling along downtown area of Tacloban City, here in Leyte (which by the way where I was born),we passed by so many thrift stores that i became curious until my mom drag me inside(hehe, thanks god i didn’t fall on my knee!).Whoah! it was really awesome to see all those lowered prices of clothing, bags and shoes. Especially now days that we have to save some extra cash for the rainy days, so to speak.

Thrift stores had a positive impact on people who wants to shop but not really cash-out that big bucks of money and those who won’t be able to afford such high price stuffs. Before, when you say”ukay-ukay” no ones going to admit that she/he bought some stuff from such place. With the turn of events and economic problems of our country, thrift store became such hits.Aside from being a haven of bargain shoppers, it has become a place of finding unique or vintage stuffs even those recent fashion styles without emptying your pockets and not having budget for other necessary goods.

Some tips that i get from my mom if your shopping in a thrift store are:

Know when are the days that their new stocks arrive and when are they selling it.

Better be early for you to be able to choose good stuffs.

Be early so that you may be able to have longer time looking more closely the stuffs you’re going to buy( like if there are damages or dirt’s).

Important-it’s OK to ask for discounts!Yes,please that’s why it’s called bargain shops.Just be reasonable with the bargaining.

There is a long list of advantages shopping on a thrift store. One truth,it will always be a gamble because you’ll never know what to find there.

What to find in a thrift stores:

1. Unusual brands that you won’t be able to find just anywhere.

    2. Cool items

    3. Vintage items

    4. Trendy stuffs

After six hours of going around those thrift stores, was satisfied for my money’s worth. No need to buy from a branded shopping store.I get more than what i bargained for.I know you’ll agree with me.

See more ideas and topics about thrift stores from apron thrift girl .

First of all let me greet all the man out there who became a father…not just biologically but those who became father figures to someone, cheers to all of you! Be it an uncle a brother, grandad, godfather and a friend. Secondly, to the man i call my Dada, the father to the most beautiful daughter(thanks to him..hehehehe). Joel S. Tan…Happy Father’s Day! We love you so much, me and Cesky are sad that you’re not here with us to celebrate this occasion. But…even though we’re far from each other always remember that in my heart and your daughters heart we keep you always.

Here’s a brief history that I’ve found while contemplating and surfing what best gift i can give for Dada Joel. Thanks to Jerry Wilson for the article.

  FATHERS’ DAY HISTORY

Sonora Dodd, of Washington, first had the idea of a “father’s day.” She thought of the idea for Father’s Day while listening to a Mother’s Day sermon in 1909.

Sonora wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart. Smart, who was a Civil War veteran, was widowed when his wife died while giving birth to their sixth child. Mr. Smart was left to raise the newborn and his other five children by himself on a rural farm in eastern Washington state.

After Sonora became an adult she realized the selflessness her father had shown in raising his children as a single parent. It was her father that made all the parental sacrifices and was, in the eyes of his daughter, a courageous, selfless, and loving man. Sonora’s father was born in June, so she chose to hold the first Father’s Day celebration in Spokane, Washington on the 19th of June, 1910.

President Calvin Coolidge, in 1924, supported the idea of a national Father’s Day. Then in 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father’s Day. President Richard Nixon signed the law which finally made it permanent in 1972.
